Office 2000 Professional - Error: 176

Tried to open an Excel file in Word. received message that Word was not
configured to do that. Asked if I wanted to install that capability. I
clicked yes, and it started install, "Please wait while Windows configures
Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional. Gathering required information."
Thenthe installation stopped withthe message:
"Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Office
2000 SR-1 Professional."

I've thought of 3 possibilirties foir this error message:
1) It is looking for the CD that my Office 2000 came on. (I recently moved
and have some program files but have not yet found the carton containing the
Office 2000 CD. I have the box the program originally came in, but the CD
and jewel box are not in it.)
2) Or could this error have something to do with Windows Genuine Advantage?
While I downloaded that some time ago, Microsoft downloads thinks I don't
have it installled.
3) I was trying to get this domne without admin user rights. Could this be
the cause?

From the other Q&A here I get the impression it is the CD that is needed.
Am I correct?

I had this problem. installed xp pro on a new hard drive, setup office 2000
pro and it was fine for me (admin user). But it was giving me the error:
"Error 1706 No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Office 2000
SR-1 Professional. The Windows installer cannot continue"
for any limited user accounts.
I found the answer here:

It solved my problem - maybe it will solve yours.
