Office 2000 Setup after update to Windows XP

I am having problems with Office 2000 SB after updating
to Windows XP Home. Setup stops with this message: "This
patch package could not be opened. Contact the
application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows
Installer patch package." The Microsoft Knowledge Base
had articles on this problem, but none of the solutions
applies to XP. Anyone have a solution?

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility has been recently updated to include
XP:

290301 - Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility:

Not all KB articles have been updated to reflect the update.
