Office 2000 Sp1 How do I get it!!

D

Duxdad

I am trying to install Office 2000 on a new HD but SP1 will not install.
I understand Microsoft stopped supporting Office Update but aoo the update
files for Office 2000 are on the Office download site.. Apparently the SP1
update is a downloader and not the actual upate program. None of the other
service packs , 2 or 3, will run without Sp1 being installed. I followed a
link mention on another thread:
"You can download the full-file version of SR-1a for Office 2000 by going
to http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2000ddl.htm and clicking on
the link for "Office 2000 SR-1 administrator updates - updated May 12, 2000".

The file mentioned there seems to be gone unless I missed it.

Anyone who may have the adminastrator's version of SP1or SP1 on a CD, I
would love a copy to solve this.

Office 2000 works fine for me and I have no need or desire to upgrade.

After some research I will answer my own question. :)
Microsoft has made Office 2000 SP1a unavailable. Although it is listed on
the Office 2000 download page it will download but not install. I am guessing
because that download was based on Office Update but I mat be wrong. Without
SP1 the other SP's will not install. There was a link to a Microsoft download
page to download the adminastrators version but Microsoft removed that as
well.
The solution is to find the administrators download version which contains
all the files to do the SP1a update. The file is "O2KSR1aDL.exe". If you
search around the inet as I did, it can be found.
I would suggest Office 2000 users download the updates while they are still
available.
I find it interesting that SP1a disappeared from Microsoft download sites
but the other updates are there, Hmmmm
Good Luck

Peter..... Why do you continue to give people the wrong answers?
This specific question has come up multiple times.... and you always provide
either very exact information that is completely not helpful... or... the
wrong answer and imply the user is doing something wrong.

Anyone who searches this forum for Office 2000 sp1 can see what you do.

If you can't give good advice, why give any at all ?

Why do you do this?

Good summary!
As you can tell from searching this site, I've gone through this as well.

For anyone else looking, one site that still provides O2KSR1aDL.exe is:
http://www.filewatcher.com/m/O2KSR1aDL.EXE.53816504.0.0.html
.... the first link is English.

That is, until Microsoft can shut that down too....
.... and then for those of us that still think Office 2000 works just fine,
we'll probably move to OpenOffice.org

R

Rick Sparks

I expected this sort of answer.

The link you gave downloads a small file which then doesn't work.
People have tried it and you imply it's their problem when it doesn't work.

I've researched this extensively... and I've researched the answers you've
given.

You don't need to respond.... I'll leave it to others to search your
responses and mine on this particular issue to determine who's more helpful.

You know what I mean on this. The facts are clear.

Peter and Rick,
I have been chasing this problem for a couple of weeks. The links you
provided to go to the SP1 link and when you click it downloads then select
run(or save). It starts to run, the accept license agreement comes on, you
accept and it starts the download and at that point it fails. I have tried
this many times with the same results always.
If you have a copy of Office 2000 I suggest you do a virgin install and try
to install SP1. I will bet you a pound of my favorite Celebes Kellosi coffee
beans.

In summary those SP1a links no longer work.

Sorry I generated a bit of discontent here.

Thanks all

Thanks

R

Duxdad.... I chased it down extensively too.
Check out the link I listed.... it is a non MS link and provides the full
SP1 and worked for me. It is one of several results from the search you
suggested.

I think you'll find we are in complete agreement

Funny that it works for all others. You been giving bad advice and contradicting
others that give properly. Keep posting with that awful Web interface which you
adore so much.

Now:
Try the download if you have Office 2000 without SR1a installed. It will install
SR1a. Just tried it on one of my test machines to dispel any further notions from
you. It works. It starts the install of SR1a and then the install connects to the
download site where it pulls all the other needed files for the Update. Learn and
then talk

As far as you go it is a <plonk> from me as should be from everyone else also.

Just tried it on a test machine. It starts the install and it accepts the key and
then it connects to the download site to finish the install.
Test was done with the Office 2000 Premium running in the W2K3 environment with
only the OS installed.

Sorry I should have also mentioned which I ommited by accident is the following

This download is the Extractor(166KB) for it, which will download/upgrade the Core
Components. .

You download the Extractor, open and run it.
I've still got the original Extractor, and it is 165KBs

It is a Win 32 Cabinet Self Extractor
File Version: 1.71.1015.0

The most important thing that needs to be done for this SR1a self extractor file to
work correctly is that you need to have your Office 2000 install CD in your CD-ROM
while executing the downloaded file

Also see these 2 links before starting your install

Hopefully we can both get to a point of agreement one way or another.
I installed Office 2000 Pro on a Vista machine and a Win 7 machine. In both
cases the installs from the original CD went correctly. After a reboot I
attempted to install SP1A. I did not have the original cd in the drive. The
small o2ksr1a.exe was downloaded, then I selected "Run", the file downloaded
ran, asked me accept the license agreement which I did. It then tried to
download the files for the update, paused a few minutes, then failed tell me
to check an error file.
This identical situation happened on the Vista and today on the Win 7
machine. I then searched around and found the "OSKSR1aDL.EXE" file which I
think is the administrators downloadable version. This ran fine and i was
able to continue with SP2 and SP3.
Now to double check I just de-installed Office 2000, rebooted, installed
again from CD, rebooted, went to Office download page, Office 2000, page 3,
and ran SP1a, it downloaded, I selected run then run again, accepted license,
said downloading. After a few seconds I got the error message "Microsoft
Office SR1 Update did not complete successfully. For assistance contact
Microsoft Technical Support See Lof File:setup(0006).txt. This is exactly
what has happened on 4 or 5 times I have attempted to install SP1a. and 3
computers. The CD was in the drive for the upgrade.
Please look over what I have done to see if there r any differences. For me
now it is a intelectual pursuit and the downloading of OSKSR1aDL.EXE fixes
the problem.
Thanks

While wating for O2KSR1aDL.exe to download from somewhere...
I dug up the mentioned logfile from o2ksr1a.exe failing - the critical part
looks like:

Beginning download of
http://download.microsoft.com/download/office2000prem/Update/3821h/WIN98/EN-US/data1.msp.
Finished downloading
http://download.microsoft.com/download/office2000prem/Update/3821h/WIN98/EN-US/data1.msp.
Error: The file,
C:\Users\Teocady\AppData\Local\Temp\sr1patch\{0DC0F122-1B1C-11D4-AED6-00C04F022C53}, has an invalid size.
Error: The Office 2000 SR-1 Core Update patch is missing or invalid.

If you look up this kind of error, the suggestion is you are out of disk
space for the MSP files (KB820939) - but I have plenty free... maybe so much
that the old patcher can't count that high? However, I get a 'cannot be
found' if I try to use the data1.msp location directly.

Teocady.... Your optimism that this info is helpful to someone who wants to
fix it is admirable, but both you and Duxdad are doing the right.... and only
thing... that works.

The reason I went off so much on Peter is because this has been going on for
months.

I can come to no other conclusions except:

1) MS has purposely disabled the two 'official' ways to install this SR
2) Some who claim to be experts (Peter isn't alone but is one of them) keep
insisting that these 'official' ways work.... and that you must not be
informed if they don't work for you,

Though alpha male contest going on within this thread between you and Peter
was an enjoyable read late this afternoon, I appreciate you supplying the
piece of useful information that solved the real issue of updating O2k by
downloading O2KSR1aDL.exe as supplied here:
http://www.filewatcher.com/m/O2KSR1aDL.EXE.53816504.0.0.html

Downloaded the file, extracted it, installed it, moving on to SR3!

Seems as though the MS users need to start software repository like the
linux community has done to keep downloads alive after they "disappear".

Michael Eriksen

Hello all,

I have read this thread and it seems that I have the same problems for my
danish version on Win XP - I have the office 2000 too and need the
international servicepacks too.

I have tried to use all the links which was mentioned in this thread - but I
have not yet found anything useful. I have also tried to goto
http://www.filewatcher.com - but no success. I can't get access to this
website.

Is there anyone who have the service pack 1a - and maybe servicepack 3 which
include the rest of the updates from 1a?

Thanks for any kind of help.

Regards Michael

Hello all,
...

SP3 doesn't include 1a. 1a needs to be installed prior to any other
SP. You can go from SP1a to SP3
