Office 2000 SR-1 keeps installing itself despite having Office 200

Ashish

Hello,

I had Office 2000 SR-1 installed on my machine earlier. I recently
uninstalled it and replaced it with MS Office 2003. Almost every day,
somewhere in my machine a background process runs and reinstalls Office 2000
SR-1 (such that both Office 2000 SR-1 and Office 2003 coexist). I am not sure
what triggers it. All my excel / word / powerpoint documents start opening
through the Office 2000 SR-1 version although Office 2003 is still
operational. I have MS Windows 2000 operating system.

I end up uninstalling MS Office 2000 SR-1 almost daily through the
Add/Remove Programs utility in the control panel.

Any suggestions please?

Best Regards,
Ashish

Is there anything in the Startup folders or in the registry Run keys that
would cause some program to access Office 2000, thus causing it to
re-install?

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

Are all things removed in Add/Remove Programs that reflect Office 2000?

Hello,

Thanks for responding.

I tried the steps you have recommended below. Found only one program in the
registry Run keys that may have a link to MS Office. It was Rational SoDA for
Word. I removed the reference and re-configured Rational SoDA so that it uses
Word 2003 specifically. But in a couple of hours, Office 2000 SR-1 installed
itself again! I had not even booted my machine...

Would you know where the Office 2000 SR-1 installables get stowed once I
have uninstalled it? I can try deleting / renaming the installable files.

Try using Windows Uninstall Cleanup Utility and see if it references
anything dealing with Office 2000.
