T

I uninstalled Office 2000 SR1 upgrade for ME and now
cannot reinstall it. I get a message that it may not be a
genuine disk and to check with MS who do not want to know
me.I downloaded windows installer 2.0 but that did not
help.Any suggestions of help would be greatly appreciated.
The disk is genuine and has not been used on any other PC
except mine.

MS claims it's a conflict between different version of their
Installer and that version 2.0 can understand both. It's a
damned LIE!

I'm having a similar problem getting Office 2000 to uninstall.
It's SR1 Premium and I want to remove it to install Office XP.
Microsoft claims the version 2,0 Installer will fix the bug in
the 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 Installers but it doesn't do $h!+. I can
neither remove Office 2000 nor install Office XP. I get the
same error doing either operation. Version 2.0 simply does
NOT fix the bug. Again, it's a damn lie !!!

Office XP does come with a utility called OFFCLN in the
FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE10 directory which WILL remove
Office 2000 applications with a genuine CD available like
I used BUT it does NOT completely clean up the registry
so Windows still thinks it's installed and you'll still
have the problem with different applications expecting
a different version of Installer and then conflicting
with each other somehow. Version 2.0 will still not
work because you have the bogus entries in the registry
f'g you over.
