Office 2000 won't install with Windows XP

I have Windows XP Home on my PC. XP was a upgrade, and was installed over
Windows ME.

I had to uninstall MS Office 2000, and when I went to reinstall it I got the
following error message:

Installer Information
Error 1933. The Windows Installer service cannot update one or more
protected windows files.

HELP!!! I'm open to any suggestions
