Office 2000: word will not run; other programs will (excel, etc.

Bought a new pc and installed Office 2000. everything works except word. will
not launch. just hangs and I have to close it with this program is not
responding. Have downloaded and installed all service packs for Office 200.
Still nothing. Any assistance would be appreciated.
