Office 2002

Hi Everyone. I am new to your Community. I run xp pro. I have Office xp 2002
installed on my computer. By inadvertence Office 2003 resource kit was
downloaded and installed. A further check revealed that it wa installed via
the custon installation wizard. Can you advise whether it can be and/or how
to unstall the same.

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for your thread. The contents have been duly noted.
The resource kit for 2003, I believe came with our download of service pack
2 or 3. I would suggest if you have not got one or both of the service packs
plus windows installer you should do so but before so doing read up about the
service packs and their advantages.

A cheque revealed that The Office 2003 Recourse kit came from the Microsoft
Deployment Centre Home.

Please note that the download office xp service pack 2 contained the kit.

A visit to Microsoft Deployment Centre Home page will give you all the info
you need. Since you were looking for the kit, thats where you will find it.

May I add that your urgings "Not to worry too much about file corruption"
are most probably right as I can't see that anything in office 2003 can be
used in or is tied in, in any way with office xp 2002. I founf "New Settings
File OPS and New Settings File out" in My Documents Folder. This appears to
be a report of some sort with a lot of things I do not understand. I will
have to read all of it through the OPS viewer

There's a link there that says: "A full file administrative update for use
by IT Administrators is available on the Office XP Resource Kit Web site. "
That Office XP Resource Kit Web site is here:

This is an administrative update installation that your IT staff might use
if it were going to install this update on all the computers in your
company.

If you're just installing service packs on your own, you just want to
download SP2 from that first link --

If yoiu already installed the resource kit, though, I don't think it will
hurt anything.

Hi Steve.

I don't know whether you got my last message as I have not seen it.
Therefore I am the advise that the service pack Office 2003 is service pack
2. The same can be found at Microsoft Deployment Centre Home. Office Online
Home.

A visit to that page will confirm that the Office xp 2003 Resource Kit came
from service pack 2.

I also found that "New Settings File.OPS" and New Settings File. out" were
situate in "My Documents Folder" I have created a Folder for the two files.
They look like a report similar to what you may find in Notebook format.

You were right to say that I should not worry. I noticed that Office xp 2002
and Office xp 2003 appear to be quite separate and apart from each other, so
that Office xp 2003 may not install at all.

Kindly let me have your further comments and/or suggestions.

Hello Steve,
The file containing office 2003 resource kit actually came with office xp 2.
It was found at Microsoft Deployment centre. The same was downloaded from
Microsoft Office downloads. It contained all that I set out in my former
threads. Wizards, viewers and information including international information.

A look at my former replies will show that I answered your questions
explicitly. A visit to the Microsoft Deployment Centre page, which you can
access through the Microsoft search window and a look at the first and second
items that will face you will support that Office 2003 resource kit comes
with the service pack 2 download. and that is what I believe will convince
you of my claim.

It seems as if you are seeing what I am writing but not actually reading the
same otherwise you would have got it right first try. and got the download
for your use since it is a free download.

If this thread does not answer your questions and you will like to bow out,
feel free so to do perhaps the other person who has contributed to the thread
and who supported my claim and gave invaluable information as to where to
find the same at the Microsoft Deployment Centre may be able to assist me
rather than have you insult my integrity.

It is rather unfortunate that this is my first thread in the Community
wherein I stated that I was a newbie of sorts and be treated in this manner.

Thank you for your supportive thread. It seems that Steve did not understand
what I was saying to him and felt he wanted to opt out of the discussion. I
shall appreciate it greatly if you may add some light to my inquiry. I am of
the impression that since office 2003 Resource kit was inadvertently
downloaded to my pc and installed in error, my office xp 2002 program may
have become corrupted. Having said this I would like to find the way to
delete the download from my system. If there will be no harm to my p.c. then
I will have nothing to worry about.

Your comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Stan, Steve is frustrated because "Microsoft Deployment Centre page" can
mean a lot of things to a lot of people. We can't see what you're doing
there, so, while you've given us a lot of information, what we'd really
like -- and what Steve has repeatedly asked for -- is a URL to what you
downloaded. It's confusing to me also when you say the Office 2003 Resource
Kit came with Office XP SP2. This seems very very strange, and so we'd like
to know exactly what you downloaded. To know that, we need a link to what
you downloaded. It's not that we don't believe you, it's that we're trying
to figure out what you downloaded and installed so we can figure out if you
need to be worried about it or not.

I provided you a link to what I found, but that doesn't mean that I'm
looking at the same thing you are, and I'm not supporting any kind of
"claim." Heck, *my* links eventually lead to the Office *XP* Resource Kit,
not the Office 2003 Resource Kit. Remember, we can't see what you're doing
there. You've talked a lot about going to the Deployment Centre page -- but
you know, Steve and I are both in the US -- our default Deployment Center
page might not even be the same as your Deployment Centre page. And I'll be
honest -- I've never even *heard* of the Deployment Centre/Center page.
There are about a million gazillion pages at Microsoft. If I can't be sure
of what you're looking at, I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time
looking for it. We're not Microsoft employees, we're users just like you,
and we volunteer here to try to help other users fix problems.

None of us has insulted your intelligence or your integrity, and I'm sorry
that you feel your experience was less than optimal, but yours is an
extremely unusual problem -- and, might I add, one that seems not really
PowerPoint-related at all. I don't know if loading the Office 2003 Resource
Kit will harm your Office XP installation. I rather doubt it, but I don't
know for sure. I think to know for sure, you'll have to call Microsoft
Product Support. If this is your computer at your place of employment, you
may want to ask your IT Staff -- they should know more about administrative
installations, which is what the "Resource Kit" downloads are.

Very specifically, what service pack did you download and which did
you
install?
Service Pack 3 or 3 isn't sufficient to go on. That might be for any
of
several versions of Office or for Windows.

If you downloaded an installer file, what was its name?

What's the URL where you found it, or how did you get there?

I am a newbie of sorts to computers although I do have some
experience
but
those tools came up after downloading the service packs. Hence the
reason for
my inquiry

Your further comments and/or suggestions will oblige. Meanwhile, I
