I have windows xp with office 2003 and when I access a document on a computer
with windows 2000 and office 2000 the document is very slow. we have a small
network of 5 computers. Alll but one have windows xp and office 2003 and
that one has all the files we are trying to access. it has wondows 2000 and
office 2000. when we access the word documents and you try to edit one of
them it can take up to a minute to register what you just typed.

it seems there is no problem with office 03 accessing previous versions.
the problem
is that you have is an unbalanced network - basically running to different
o.s.'s and each
having there credentitals.......

i suggest that your syncronize your network with 1 o.s.

Thanks, I will start working on that right away. We also have 3 routers for
5 computers and one plotter and not sure how it is all hooked together.
Could this be a problem as well?

i'm not sure about the router situation, but i think
it may be odd to have 3 seperate routers for 5 pc's.
it does sound like there is a configuration issue - (too many routers
and/or
different o.s.)

i am positive that there should be no issue with seperate
office programs opening up doc's - this is an assurance
built into the office products....

A way to minimize the possibilities is to transfer those 2000 docs on to a
win xp formatted cd(s)

actually, since you are a small business
you may be better off transferring file onto dvd's
instead.

a cd hold about 600 megs while a dvd can hold 4 gigs or
if it is a doubling dvd writer and compatiable dvd, it
can hold 8 gigs...
