Office 2003 and 2007

Andrew

I use a lot of government spreadsheets in my job, and I was accessing some
from FHFB.gov and every time I downloaded their excel data I kept getting
errors.

I called them to discuss what was going on and it was that they have office
2007 and only save files as 2003 files, but I was still unable to open them
up. I didn't have any problems with their older spreadsheets that were made
with the 2003 version of excel. I am not sure why I wouldn't able to open a
spreadsheet that was meant to be opened by the 2003 version.

I also installed the 2003 to 2007 conversion pack that Microsoft has so that
I can view 2007 files, and I know that it works because I tested it out.

Thank you very much.

I'd ask them how they're saving the files as 2003 files. If they're just
changing the file extension, that may not work the way it used to.

They said there was an option to save as a 2003 file.

if you go to that link and then attempt to download either table 1 or table
2 you will get an error. Those are the two spreadsheets that were created
with Office 2007 and saved as a 2003 file.

The other spreadsheets on that like were all created using office 2003 and
saved as a 2003 files so they all work

I don't have Excel 2003 installed to check this, but are you trying to open
the files directly from the site or are you saving them to your local drive
(or network) and trying to open them from there? If I try to open them
directly then I encounter an odd message in Excel 2007. The message is along
the lines of, "GetFile.aspx. This file was created in a different format
than specified by the extension." Excel 2007 is able to open the file but
it's possible Excel 2003 can't using the same method.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
