I want my current and past calendar events and appointments to be visible at
all times, so I can reference back to them

just don't archive anything.....are you standalone, or exchange server?

You mean like Archive? See "Help", "Archive"

Tools-Options-Other-Autoarchive and uncheck "run autoarchive every x days"
