Office 2003 Basic Edition and OWC (Office Web Components)

Hello,

should OWC (Office Web Components) work with Excel 2003 from the Basic
Edition?

Actually, even after re-installing the OWC from CD or the MS download
site, they do not work.
After de-installing the Office 2003 Basic Edition, and installing
Office 2003 Professional, the OWC work fine...

Thanks
Ernst

Hi Ernst,

The Office 2003 Web Components should generally
work with all Office 2003 editions. Can you
be more specific on how it 'doesn't work'
in your scenario?

Did you try reinstalling the basic edition and
then the OWC rather than just the Professional
Edition after the uninstall of the Basic (OEM only)
edition?

Hi Bob,

here some details:

On a Win XP client we found Office 2003 Basic pre-installed.
On this computer our webpages with the OWC did not work, no OLAP access was
possible (ASP web page). We got the error message

'columnAxis' is null or not an object

Usually this error message indicates that OWC are not present.

In this case, they were installes. De- and Re-installing of the OWC did not
change the situation.
Installing the OWC included in the setup package of the BASIC Edition
vorhandenen Webkomponenten did not solve the problem, too.

After installing Office 2003 Prof the OWC access to our cubes was working.

Maybe it's a GUUD problem? But shouldn't OWC register under the same GUID,
regardless of the edition? At least fpr Office 2003 (older versions use
different ones)

Thanks
Ernst
