Office 2003 - can no longer select text in any office doc

I am experiencing something weird. All of a sudden I cannot select
text in a Word doc, Outlook message or Excell file.
Also, now when I double-click on any office document it will launch
the application but not open the actual document.
VERY AGGRAVATING.
Any Ideas?
