Office 2003 CD not working

I bought Office 2003 pro from Dell with my computer, and needed to
reinstall because I added a new hard drive. I temporarily lost the CD
(in a move) and installed Student 2003 to get my email and use Word and
Excel. Now I have the disk package, and when I put in the CD, it does
not get read at all, and locks up the system.

The disk appears to have some marks on it that I never noticed before.
Should I try and get a replacement copy of the CD, and how would I do
this?

You have to go thru Dell and to be honest with you, your chances at getting
a replacement are something between "ain't gonna happen" and "you've got to
be kidding".

There are several homemade CD scratch remedies available on the web. I'd
suggest starting there. Believe me, you stand a better chance at fixing the
scratches with toothpaste than you do with Dell replacing the CDs.

(I'd really love to have you post back that I was wrong but...)

Thanks JoAnn. Should I uninstall the student edition before I install
the Pro? I am concerned as to how MS knows how many times I've
installed student, since it is on two of my kid's computers and I'd
like to use it on a third after it comes off mine.

I'll try a CD scratch cleaner, as I have had trouble with Dell
replacing software. Thank you once again!

Yes. The main reason is because Office STE is not upgradeable and Office Pro
is.

Good luck with the remedies!
