Hi,

We are using the Office 2003 Document imaging software on
a public scanning station. The beauty of this software is
that it is easy to use and quick. The downsides are it
doesn't appear to support .jpeg files and the default
scanning presets are difficult to lock down.

My questions are:

1: Is support for .jpeg files a possibility with this
software?
2: What is needed to lock down the presets so they cannot
be changed by "Joe Public" who will be using the software.
Is there a registry setting that I can manipulate in group
policy to grey out the "Preset Options" button so the
public can't change the presets or should I use an .OPS
file to reset the settings when ever the application is
closed and re-opened...(would prefer group policy.....alot
cleaner to manage)

thanks for your help

Hi Jason,

For imaging/fax software TIF is generally the
default. The only other export/save format
supported by MS Office 2003 Document Imaging
is MDI, a MS created TIFF derivative.

If you're scanning you may want to look at the
scanner provided software to have it preset
then not present its user interface, although
you may need a more advanced product than what
came with the scanner.

You may want to look at these Office reg keys

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSPaper 11.0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\Scan
(MSPaper is the name of the MS Office Document Imaging App)
