Office 2003: Error! Not a valid embedded object.

Hi,
I am trying to upgrade to Office 2003 from Office XP Pro
version on my PC. Things go fine during the upgrade and
did not notice any problems during installation. However,
now all OLE objects in my Office documents (Word and
PowerPoint) appear as empty boxes with a small red `x' in
the top-left corner. When I double-click on the object the
application that created the object opens fine, and when I
shut the other application down, the empty box vanishes and
now I see a message "Error! Not a valid embedded object."
in its place instead. I've tried a clean install by
unstalling Office XP and 2003, but still have the same
problem. Does anyone know what's causing the problem and
how to fix it? Thanks very much.

The problem stems from windows preserving registry values
that are no longer valid. The patch is irrelevant.

I'm having the same error, could you explain a bit more on how-to-fix?
