You actually are trying to install SP3 for Windows is one answer to your
symptoms. Open an Office app and then click Help, About and see what
you have for Office SP installed.
Sorry. Had to uninstall office 2007 trial version plus 2003 version as 2007
over rode and after the trial run out I was unable to do anything in Office
at all except read files. Had to use MSuninstaller to remove all so that I
could then reinstall 2003. Reinstalled 2003, downloaded updates to a download
file then went to install the SP3 to find that windows says that it is
already installed. I did not allow any updates to install & gave no
permission for them to install that is why I am very confussed. I wasn't even
connected to the internet most of the time. except to download to the
designated folder. So will the other updates for Office 2003 be also
installed?
That was what I was thinking but have got no idea how to find out. Any ideas?
I am having so many problems with vista it would not surprise me. I checked
for updates on office updates but when that checked it said that they were
already installed. I presumed that it was going by the history file of
updates previously downloaded, therefore downloaded to a file on the computer
to install from there.
I don't have a 2003 installation to look at, but you might want to look
at one of the files from the later updates for Office 2003, and see if
it is really in the Programs\Office folder, (check datestamps and file
sizes)
Thankyou Bob, Yes they were installed the day after I reinstalled 2003, how
beats me as I did not ok any intall updates for this thing unless I was so
tired I didn't realise it. Been working on this at night so I can contact
Microsoft as I am in Australia. Big time difference. I couldn't find the
updates installed till now. Still getting used to Vista and still don't like
it. However I have found that all the updates for Office 2007 are still
installed. Safer to leave them there or uninstall them? Thought they would
have gone with the MS uninstall cleaner?
Have you run the MS Installer Cleanup Utility against the Office 2003
install? That should I would think remove those registry entries and
allow Office 2003 SP3 to install.
So you mean run the mscleanup after uninstalling 2003 then reinstall it? All
the 2007 office updates are stil there too even though I run the clean up
utility. Or just uninstall the 2007 updates individually? Sorry to drag this
out but had a few emergencies to attend to first.
Uninstall what you can and then run the cleanup utility to remove the
registry entries that remain. Then install your office 2003 and the
updates for it. If that doesn't straighten it out, I'm out of ideas as
far as easy fixes.
OK thanks Bob. I won't be able to do it tonight as I need sleep. Now 4.06am
here. Will let you know how I go when I have tackled the situaton. If that
doesn't work I think I might have to reformat and start with a clean slate.
That would be about the only option I think. Unless anyone else has any
bright ideas???
