Office 2003 - I can not view my messages in the email Reading Pane

I just installed Office 2003 and I am unable to view my received email messages in the Reading Pane; there is nothing in the pane but “from, to, and the subjectâ€. The reader is blank where the message should be. I know that there is a button somewhere that I need to push. Can someone help me?
