office 2003 - install with no disc drive

Hope someone can help. I have just purchased a new laptop, which does not
have a disc drive. However I have got Office 2003 that I purchased for my old
pc that I would like to put on my new laptop. I have the disc (obviously not
much good without a disc drive) and also have the product key. The man at the
shop told me that I would be able to down load it and put my product key in
or just copy it on to a memory stick and transfer. I have tried both, but
with no success. Is there any way of getting Office from one pc to the other.

Thank you in advance.

Exactly what are you trying to copy or transfer? The only thing that's going to
work is to copy the complete contents of the disc (presumably doing this on the
old computer that has a drive). You cannot get a working installation of Office
by any other means.

If you have a network connection between the two computers, you can make the
copy in a folder on the laptop's drive; otherwise you can make the copy onto a
memory stick, if you have one that's large enough.

Once the copied image of the disc is available to the laptop, run the setup.exe
in the top-level folder of the image.

A second alternative is to purchase a cheap (<$25) USB Optical drive. You
may find you need to install additional programs over time.

Do you have a network that contains a computer with a CD drive?

In situations like the one you face, what I typically do is

- insert the CD on the drive in a networked computer
- share the CD drive
- on the computer you want to install software on, connect to the C
share (assigning a drive letter may not be necessary but I always d
that)
- run the setup program or the .msi file.

Good luck
