Office 2003 Print Problem

D

Dawn

I'm having a baffling printing issue on many of my PCs since upgrading to
Office 2003. (I love roll outs)
PC config: Windows XPPro w/SP2 and some Windows 2k, Network printers, HP
Laserjet 8000n.
Users open an existing document and click print or select Print from the
file menu. Nothing happens. They do not get the print dialog box, they do not
see the printer icon on the system tray, and nothing prints. If they close
the document and open it again they can print it. It is happening in Word and
Excel 2003. It does not happen to every, user or every time they print. It
does not happen to new documents started from normal.dot only existing
documents.
Nothing is logged into the eventviewer. This is not happening to users that
have not been upgraded to Office 2003.

Hi Dawn,

It's possible that Word is having trouble locating,
accessing the printer or a template that is used
for the documents (i.e. the location or relative
location has changed with the upgrade).

Does Word take a long time to start on these
computers?

If you install a local printer driver do you
get the same delay?

Thanks for your response Bob. I had a flash of insight after posting this
question and downloaded updated printer drivers and installed them to the
network printers. It seems to have worked so far.
