Office 2003 Pro dysfunctional and unable to uninstall

I have prepared a detailed account of the problem, with full text of error
messages, which I would like to submit to anyone with the knowledge and will
to attempt a diagnosis and perhaps suggest a cure. Among the symptons:
Office files are all now Wordpad files and cannot open from Explorer. Office
2003 cannot be uninstalled. The description is a bit lengthy so I did not
want to submit it unless someone wants to take it on. Thanks.

It could just be that you needed to associate word with the .doc file types.
Did you try that before you attempted an uninstall?

And please, don't send me the write-up.

Yes, and it did not help. I have jumped through every hoop I can find to no
avail. I'm sure there are still hoops to jumb through if I knew what and
where.

Without details of what the issue is and sopme information about what steps
you've already taken to resolve the situation, how can anyone help?

As I stated in my original post, I have all of that prepared and ready to
email to anyone ready and able help. I didn't wamt to send all of the
details of what has occurred if nobody was willing to take it on. I am no
novice and I've worked my way through dozens of issues with Windows and
Office over the years, but this one has me stumped. I am hoping that fresh
eyes and perhaps better knowledge can be brought to bear at your end.

I saw that but you need to bear in mind that the newsgroups are a public way
to help everyone. You are more likely to get help if you post your issues
here than if you say "I have details if anyone wants to help."

Hi PDL,

What happens if you delete, for example, the association for MS Word (.doc, .dot) and then use Start=>Run
Winword.exe /r

If you're unable to uninstall or repair Office 2003 it could be the installation is corrupted or the Local Install Source (\MSOCache
hidden folder) is damaged.

What is the exact error message you get when you try to run a repair of Office from Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control
panel?
