Office 2003 removal or repair

F

Franz Schenk

Have to remove/repair or reinstall Office 2003 on a workstation. Office 2003
was installed a long time ago, the installation source and the used
installation method is unknown.

Whatever I'm trying to do, the Office setup routine prompted me first for a
file called "mainsp2ff.msp", then "olkintlff.msp", and now for a file called
"infopath.msp". Have found mainsp2ff and olkintff, and have now ordered
Hotfix 920914 from Microsoft just for getting infopath.msp, but I suspect
that Office will prompt for other msp files that are not available.

There are Microsoft Office eraser tools
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239938/), but they work only for Office
Versions up to 2000.

Any advice? I just need a working Office 2003 Outlook! It doesn't matter if
I have to completely remove, reinstall or repair Office 2003. But reinstall
the whole workstation is not an option.

Thank you all in advance for any help
Franz

An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer, such as Dell),
sometimes loads the program from a different (outdated) disk to the one they
supply you
with.
When trying repair/reinstall, the system may be looking for a file that does
not exist on your supplied disk.
You need to download Windows Install Clean Up Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
The download link is under More Information.
Use this to remove any registry (remembered files/settings) files relating
to original install and then do a fresh install from disk.

Thank you very much for your help, the windows installer utility solved the
problem!

After removing Office 2003 with the installer cleanup utility, I could
reinstall Office 2003 without any problem. Did know the tool, but I didn't
know that this tool does obviously more than just removing the uninstall
registry key.
