Office 2003 says I am not the current user for Word. How come?

I botched a restore operation from an external hard drive, and among the many
problems that created, I am told when I open the Word program from Office
2003 that I am not the current user, that I should reinstall. I did reinstall
and it keeps sayying I am not the current user.
Before the reinstall, I did not, underline did not, uninstall Office 2003.

The same problem exists with Excel from 2003

Maybe you should take another look at the error message, because
it doesn't say what you are quoting here. You cannot install
Office 2003 by copying it from one hard drive to another.
Install it from the original Office 2003 CD.

I did reinstall from the Office 2003 CD! That is exactly what I did.

My follow up question is this: Should I uninstall Office 2003, and then,
instlall from the Office 2003 CD?

Yes, uninstall the bootleg copy, and install from the CD. If you
can uninstall Office 2003 from Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove
Programs, that would be better. If you cannot uninstall from
there, then download, install, and run the Windows Installer
Cleanup Utility from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/ ,
and then install Office 2003 to the same folder on the new hard
drive as where you originally tried to copy it.

In addition to what I suggested a minute ago, you should be
logged on to Windows as administrator or as a user with
administrator privileges before you uninstall or install Office
2003.

To clarify, use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove
the Windows Installer entry related to Office 2003.
