Office 2003 SP3 MS Doc Imaging won't resave edited TIFFs

Apols if this Q is already posted but couldn't find it anywhere, so here
goes...

After applying SP3 to Office 2003 (Std Student/Teacher version) under XP
Home 2002 SP2 I have a problem in that many hitherto OK TIFFs and MDI files
won't resave after annotation. Pb appears to be where document has had one
or more pages added or rotated. Also have the problem with multipage TIFFs
with mixed page formats (eg colour and B/W) Any help with a solution or
work-around would be most helpful. At present MS Doc Imaging works fine to
simply scan/save and read-only but that's a pain. Happy to try alternative
app if that overcomes Pb.
Tks in advance

Hi J.G._1,

Are you saving to the same location? Can you resave to a different folder using Save As?

One of the things the update did was to remove JPEG compression from the TIFF files in MS Office Document Imaging
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938813?FR=1

If you have a machine that doesn't have SP3 installed you can open the TIFF file to see what compression type shows in File=>Save
As.

Were the annotations set permanent in those Document Imaging files?
Tools=>Annotations=>Make Annotation Permanent
if not, you may be able to open the TIFF file in another graphic app, such as
http://irfanview.com
but the annotations may be lost, or you may want to try opening the TIFF files in MS Windows Image/Fax viewer and then resave.

Hi, Bob
Tks for this. I've done a few more tests prompted by your response. I
should add that I have had no problem in opening any TIFF saved before or
after SP3. The only pb is on saving after editing.

As far as I can see the compression I used was Grp4 Fax for B/W pages and
Packbits for colour/grayscale. I used Irfanview to check. However when I
took a problem doc created by MS Doc Imaging before SP3 which I cannot now
edit/resave using MS Doc Imaging, and edited/resaved it using Irfanview, I
had no further pbs with MS Doc Imaging - ie I could annotate the new doc,
rotate pages etc and resave.

Hence the work-around appears to be open, edit and resave once using
Irfanview, and then carry on with MS Doc Imaging - which is neater for some
operations. Still, a proper fix would be brill!
