Office 2003 stopping windows going into standby

When I attempt to put my laptop on standby with Office 2003 open often I
will get the following message....

"Windows cannot go on standby because
Microsoft Office documents or application components are
being accessed from the network. You must close the open
documents or exit the application before you can put the
computer on standby"

Is there any way of turning off this "feature" ?

I'm getting a little frustrated coming back to find my laptop battery dead
or near death with this "friendly" dialog displaying. I don't really care
if some email's downloaded pictures aren't saved or not.
