Office 2003 suite fails to run after August 2008 updates

Office 2003 Pro SP3; XPx64 SP2

After installing the recent August 2008 security updates for the Office
Sutie, none of the programs open. Attempts at running any of the Office
programs cause a general error 1000 with the faulting module of MSO.dll. Two
or three attempts at running any of the Office programs causes a blue screen
fatal error in NDIS.sys.

Removing the security updates returns the Office Suite to normal operation.

The same thing happened to me this morning. And if I go to Remove Programs -
the updates show that I am not allowed to remove. How can I get around that
and remove it? It's also asking for the sku1e3.cab file and I'm on vacation
so I don't have my installation CD's. Help please.

I used a restore point prior to the date the updates were installed.
