Office 2003 Trial Uninstalled-Now Office 2000 has error.

I am frustrated beyond belief. Office 2003 Trial came with my new Dell.
Upon expiration, I unstalled using Add/Remove Programs and installed my
Office 2000 program using my disk. Installation went fine but when I attempt
to open Outlook, I get an error message that "Outlook must close, blah blah".
When I send the error report for assistance, there is no fix or support
available, only a suggestion that I "upgrade" at a cost. I have used this
version of Office on my last 2 PCs without any problem so I have to assume it
is a conflict with the 2003 Trial Version. Both my Word and Excel files open
fine. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you so much.

When you installed OL2k did you create a new pst?
It maybe that OL is tryning to connect to the OL2003 pst, which is
incompatible with earlier versions of OL

MS ceased support for Office2k some time ago - it is now 3 versions 'old'

After your response I created the new pst but it didn't help. I'm going to
try Dell since I'm still under warranty support and it was their pre-packaged
"free" trial offer. I can still use OL Express in the meantime.
Thanks for responding.
