Office 2003 - Update cannot be applied

I am running Office 2003 with Vista Ultimate as the o/s. There are several
updates that download (especially for Outlook) but they will not install – I
have had to “hide†them so the pc does not continually try (without success)
to install them again and again

I have now downloaded SP3 for Office 2003 and tried to install it but got
the message "Update cannot be applied" - any ideas how to fix this please?

Usually you would open MS Update, review the history & click on the icon
next to a failed update for an explanation & maybe cure
