Office 2003 Upgrade doesn't recognize Office 97 on a floppy. Help?

C

Casey

So I have Office 97...not currently installed. I lost it with one of my hard
drive crashes. I do have the floppies though (44 or so). I have purchased
Office 2003 and have tried to install it on my XP system, but it fails to
recognize the Office 97 startup floppy. The Microsoft help section only
refers to using CDs, but there was no requirement indicated for CD over
floppy on the 2003 Upgrade.
Is there a work around for this?

If it was me, I'd try a minimal Ofc97 installation (say Word only), and then
Ofc 2003 should find it on your hd. Other than that you would probably need
to call MS. I have found them to be pretty understanding, but finding the
right person to talk to would possibly be harder than doing a 97 install.
There is a KB that lists all of the files contained in the .cab files on
your floppies http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;166925

but I'm not sure what the file you are looking for is, if it even exists on
the 97 floppy version.
