Office 2003 upgrade issues

Missy

I have just upgraded my Office from 2000 Professional to
2003 standard. Since I have, I get a windows installer
window and it asks for the 2000 Pro CD. I no longer have
that CD and wonder what I can do to keep this from
happening. Also, it is safe to go in and delete
Microsoft Office 2000 Professional through Add/Remove
programs?

Thanks!

Hi Missy,

If the Office 2000 installation is undamaged then you can use Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel to remove Office
2000. Since you had the Pro version then the MS Installer that put in place your Office 2003 copy would have normally left in place
any program, such as MS Access 2000 for which your Office 2003 copy did not have a replacement.

Note that when upgrading, you don't gain an additional license for a copy of Office. The license is for the qualifying product +
the upgrade package as a single 'set' for a given user.

Bob,
The version of Office I bought was not an upgrade. It was a full
version and it said I could put that program on up to 3 computers without
having to purchase any other licenses. Can you tell me why the Office 2000
installer keeps popping up?

Thanks,

Melissa

Hi Melissa,

Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel to see if there are any MS 2000 series products still listed. Office 2000
Professional will not be completely uninstalled by Office 2003 Standard/Student & Teacher's Edition as Office Pro has additional
programs. The MS Installer that both versions use will ask for whatever CD it needs to repair an installation that it thinks it has
a problem It expects to always have access to the original installation media. If you don't have the CDs you may want to uninstall
the 2000 series products from Add/Remove Programs.

Thanks Bob! So, in your opinion, should I delete 2000 all together?

Maybe. ;-

Office 2000 Pro has some things that you won't have in Office 2003 Standard Edition. Like Access and Publisher

I've never used Publisher and use Access only at work where I have a different license. For home use I won't miss it
