Office 2003 won't work after XP Repair

I had a major incident with a piece of software on Windows XP which
corrupted the Windows Installer Service. I had to to a Repair Install of XP
which fixed that probelm but now Office won't work and comes up with the
message "Application failed to initialize". I went to Add/Remove Programs
and clicked on Change. It starts the Installer and then says "setup has
detected an incomplete windows xp service pack" and will not continue. I
tried installing Windows Service Pack 2 but it had problems and still will
not work. Any ideas please!?
