Office 2004 for the MAC - Excel problems - "Document not saved", can't rename, copy or insert worksh

Advice, please. A workaround for this problem would be much
appreciated:

Am working on a Powerbook, OS 10.4.6. As a start, made sure I updated
software for MAC and Office.

I can open a blank new Excel file, but cannot save it, or save it as
(with a new name). Can convert a text delimited file into .xls
workbook, but cannot save it or rename it.

Files can be duplicated, saved and worked on, but not if adding a new
worksheet. Nor can the workbook be renamed (save as) to create a new
version.

Initially had problems began with complex workbooks that depended on
linked worksheets for calculations and input. After duplicating a
workbook, I could not open the newly duplicated workbook if placed in
another folder location.

Any ideas?

hopeful.

I have no idea what the problem is. Have you repaired permissions after
installing and/or updating Office? You say you have updated the Mac and
office software, yet you also say you are running 10.4.6. 10.4.8 is
current. What versions or each are you actually running?

Are your permissions set to allow you write access to the directory
you're trying to use?
