Office 2007 AdminPoint Install

B

Hi S.D.,

I'm not sure I understand your question completely about installing locally.

The Office Network Installation Point would be the source location for deploying. You can create different .MSP files for different
depts/user groups, etc to have customized installations, much in the manner that you can with Office 2003 and its Custom
Installation Wizard.
http://officebeta.iponet.net/en-us/techcenter/HA012341191033.aspx

Unlike Office 2003, where there was a choice between 'customization' and having a 'Local Installation Source' (LIS), with Office
2007 all installs have a mandatory LIS, so effectively, yes, you could consider the installations to be done locally as you can
'precache'
(setup the LIS on workstations) and then do the final installation from the LIS.

On GPO instllations, you bypass the use of Setup.exe for deploying the various (multiple) .MSIs that can exist in a Network
Installation point, but you do use it to create the .MSP customization files to start with. See if the steps here help
http://officebeta.iponet.net/en-us/techcenter/HA100797111033.aspx
(note that to use the officebeta.iponet.net site you need to have either installed Office 2007 or use the ActiveX control in IE from
link #3 below).

This is great info but one follow up question, once I have my O-NIP all set,
can use the .msi file in there to deploy office via GPO? If I do create a
cutomization file (.msp) do all install have to be done locally or is there
a network wide deployment method (IE: cna I use Group Policy to deploy a
customized instance?).

Thanks -
