Office 2007 Beta 2 and Works 7

I really like the new program and will no doubt purchase upon release.

You might need to know the following. Since I installed Office 2007 Beta 2,
my version of MS Works 7 is no longer able to load. I think the install has
affected the .dll files required by Works? I have tried
uninstalling/reinstalling Works but to no avail.

I have since managed to open most of my old Works files via Office 2007 and
have converted them to Word and Excel format. However, there are some Works
files (saved under a previous version of Works I think) which will not open.
These have the following extensions: .wps .wdb and .wks

Any suggestions folks?

Hi Milservuk,

MS Office 2007 Beta 2 includes some updated MS Works DLL files (about a dozen <g>) that the older versions of MS Works don't
understand.
WkWbl.DLL is the main one that causes the apps and utilities such as WksSB.exe (the Works Portfolio Manager) to choke a bit.

For the current workaround to get both MS Works and Office 2007
Beta 2 working together you'll need your MS Works CD and you can use these steps.

1. Use Start=>Programs=>Accessories=>System Tools and set a System Restore Point.

2. As with any significant change to your PC configuration such as installing and uninstalling software backup your files before
proceeding.

3. From Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel uninstall Microsoft Works.

4. Delete the folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\

5. Restart the PC.

6. Install Works from the CD.

BTW, to send feedback on using MS Office 2007 Beta 2 directly to the MS Office product team you can use the 2007 feedback tool from
the link below.

Hi Bob, I just want to express my gratitude for your very prompt response and
solution to the problem. Although only a 'Home User' nowadays, I like to
keep up with the new products if I can, hence trying out the Beta versions of
IE, Live OneCare, Office 2007 etc. Keep up the good work at Microsoft - you
produce terrific products.

regards, Milservuk
