Hi Bri,
The Autotext feature is still there, in fact it's now part of the 'Building Blocks' section of what they call 'Document Parts' that
works across the Office core apps now. It gives you more abilities to group things and create live previews in various galleries
from the ribbon, but what they did take out was the 'screentip' for autocomplete of the Autotext, where if you typed in the first 3
or four characters of your autotext it would suggest the autotext to use.
In Word 2007 you can still use the Autotext completion feature by typing out the same characters you used before that brought up the
autocomplete screentip, and then hit the F3 key to complete the entry (if it is a unique one based on the number of characters you
typed).
In a way it's sort of like using Google for search and deciding if you want to use the 'I'm feeling lucky' button or not <g>.
Basically MS is, it appears, wanting to create a 'use the ribbon - it's always there - in the same place' approach. With the
building blocks expansion there may have been a concern that over time there could be hundreds of entries and that the
'autocomplete' suggestion would popup for almost anything you happened to type

They're apparently retiring the Autotext name, which is leading to some unneccessary confusion.
=============
I am actually a little irritated that Microsoft word does not do the auto
text anymore. It was so easy for me to insert the filename with office 2003.
Now I can't do that without typing it manually. I also used the autotext for
my school assignments when I needed to put my reference initials in it. I
have to type that manually now.
My question is...why did they take away the auto text feature and how was it
supposed to be better in 2007? The rest I like. >>

I hope this helped you,
