Office 2007 complete garbage

J

Jay

Well, I'm uninstalling this complete garbage release and going back to 2003.
I can't believe Microsoft is releasing such crap to the market. It can't
handle opening spreadsheets with links, the install is screwed up and keeps
installing every time you open it and when an email comes across, it
reconfigures the system. I've uninstalled, repaired, run the install
cleanup, reinstalled. It tries to continually reconfigure the system. I get
random crashes. I tried to redownload, etc. I would recommend anyone
considering Office 2007 to stay with 2003 until Microsoft gets past their
first obligatory buggy release. Maybe 6-12 months from now I'll look at it
again! Don't install this crap on your computer, it will cost you days of
productivity loss.

It is amazing how some people are willing to publicly demonstrate their
ignorance.

Had you bothered to read any of the messages in this news group, you would
understand that YOU and not MICROSOFT created the problems you now seem to
face.

As my old pappy said rather often, "It is better to keep ones mouth shut and
be thought a fool, rather than open it and remove all doubt."

My experience with 07 has been less than satisfactory, too, with
continual "installing" and reconfiguring. Downloading the eval
versions took two attempts before it would install to begin with. I
will say it worked better on a Vista-equipped PC than on XP. Maybe
once a service pack is released, things will improve, but I haven't
seen anything in Office 07 that makes it worth the upgrade from a
valid and functional XP or O3 installation.

Sorry cheif, but I did read the messages on the group, lots of them. I did
try all the home remedies. It pisses me off I have to try 20 steps to try to
get something to work because they claim they have a fragile install. All of
those steps, they didn't work. It's Microsoft's software in a fairly generic
setup and env and it doesn't work. I'd say that's a Microsoft test failure.
Now, if you have anything useful to say that would magically clean this up.
I'm willing to listen, but so far no one has been able to figure out what's
going on. Sorry...the software is crap and it has been for many people on
this board. If it works for you great...a lot of people aren't having that
experience.

I agree with your father's saying, too bad you didn't figure out it applies
to you too.

Unfortunately, I'm on Vista, build 6000 and it still doesn't work, so that's
not it either. On the fortunate side, Office 2003 is pretty stable and
Office 2007 isn't all that compelling from a functionality standpoint. It's
prettier, but most of my add ins more than compenstate for the new feature
set. After having run vista for a while, it looks good, but again, I don't
see anything really compelling that would make me move to it across the
office. I don't think these are going to move very fast. And with
Microsoft's arrogant attitude toward support "It works on my machine, it must
be your problem." I see less of a reason to change.

So let me see, you have Office 2003 and 2007 on the same computer?
office. I don't think these are going to move very fast. And with

Where did you get that attitude from? Did you call product support?

The answer to your other question is yes. I went through the four call
centers in India to get to the right one. Then I was redirected to a
$250/hour service that yielded nothing.

Do you have enough memory in RAM for 2007. I was habing some problems and
had to co into control panel and instead of removing 2003, I had to just
make certain probrams not available so 2007 would work happily. Give me
some specifics and I will try to help. Now mine is working so great I am
considering the full package.

I am running Vista build 6000, and the 12.0.4518.1014 version of Office. I
did not have 2003 on this machine, it was a fresh install. I had very little
software when I loaded the Beta for 2007. I unloaded the beta when I got the
latest version of office and installed it. I also uninstalled it, ran the
cleanup utility and reinstalled. I still launches the configure utility
every time I launch and office utility. I get access errors in the registry
of access denied. I have 2 GB of RAM and a Pentium 3.0 dual core processor,
so I doubt it's power or memory When I run Excel or Word, the configure
dialog box comes up everytime I launch but so does the install dialog. It
takes 3 minutes to launch word with all the setup stuff it goes through every
time.

DOn't know if that helps or not...thanks for trying to help me out.

Maybe your computer is your problem.
Most people I know and even I am using P-4's.
Survey anyone else installing office 2007 on a p-3?
Or on a p-4?

My guess is it's directly related to having a previous version of Office
on your machine (Office Beta). I seem to remember seeing a couple of
articles about the beta not being removed properly causing problems.
I can't find them now but maybe later this evening I can dig around a
bit. Remember you loaded BETA software on your system all bets are off
at that point. I'll post back if I can find the articles.

I've loaded Office 2007 on much slower machine than yours
(2.2 ghz Amd with gig of RAM) and it runs just fine.
