Office 2007 Default Install Options

I

it''''s me

Does anyone know if you can modify the default "save files in this format"
during the installation??? Has anyone done it??

We're a medium size business and want to leverage the network for the
installation, but not everyone will get 2007 when it ships, so there will be
2003 and 2007 versions on our network. In Excel 2007 for example, I can set
the "save files in this format" to Excel 97-2003 Workbook, but then I have to
touch every station with 2007, can I change that option during the install???

Thank you in advance.

Yes, you can use the Office customization tool (Setup /Admin) to create custom installation settings and the Office 2007 Group
Policy (.ADM) files to set your default file save format and/or deploy to the Office 2003 users the compatability and converter
packs that will enable them to open and save Office 2007 files from Office 2003 apps.

There's more information in the Office 2007 Resource Kit at the OfficeOnline beta site.

I know it's a Beta copy, but when I tried to change things with a MSP file,
some settings did and some didn't. I wasn't able to change the default "save
as" type, but I was able to change other things so I know it's using the file?

Bob,

When you say that I have to run the Office Customization Tool, you are
referencing the client, right? And this obviously has to be done from
the command-line, right? Can you send specific details on the
customization tool?

Thanks for your help.

Frank,

If you extract the Office installation files then run setup with the admin
switch (setup /admin) from a command line the Office Customization Tool will
launch. You can change the setting for the installation by creating a custom
MSP file. It's easier than it sounds.

I worked with that for a while on my test station. I found better success
with by download and using the Group Policy templates and configuring them.

Cheers,

Brian

Hi Frank,

As Brian mentioned it's more complicated trying to figure out what all the screens are in the Office 2007 Customization Tool
(OCT2007B2) than working with it.

You first extract the files from the download to a new folder by using this method. It creates a 'CD Image' of the Office 2007
Professional Edition. You can add to that same image, using the same method, other Office 2007 beta apps, before you use the
OCT2007B2 tool.

1. Use Start=>Run , and on a single line type in
the following (using your unique path & file names
and leaving out the brackets)

"drive:\Step2PathOfDownload\downloadfilename.exe" /extract:"Step3path"

Example: (assuming you saved to a 'downloads' folder and created a new folder named Off2007ProB2CD1 for your Office 2007 CD image
location) the Start=>Run line would look
like this

"c:\downloads\OPPLUS-EN.EXE" /extract:"C:\Off2007ProB2CD1"

Once you have created the CD image and filled it with Office 2007 Professional Edition plus any additional Office 2007 apps you want
to install together and customize you use
Start=>Run
and type in the full path location of your Office 2007 CD Image (Office 2007 Network Installation Point in MS terms) and Setup
/Admin.

Example:
"C:\Off2007ProB2CD1" Setup.exe /Admin
More information on using the Office 2007 Customization tool and on 'chaining' (installing more than one app at the same time) can
be found in the Office 2007 Resource Kit link from
http://microsoft.com/office/ork

Unlike prior editions of Office, where only volume license users could use the customization tools, in the Office 2007 beta 2 the
ability to customize the installation is available to all license holders (as long as they have setup Administrator profiles on
their PC).

Let us know how it goes for you please, and be sure to send your feedback on Office 2007 directly to the MS Office product team as
well using the feedback tool from the link below and the feedback link on each page of the Office 2007 preview website. They do
want to make it better, but need everyone's help :)
