office 2007 e mail compatability

I've downloaded 2007 beta and like it a lot. However, when I send an e mail
with a file attachment to 2003 user, the attachment can't be opened. Is this
just the beta version problem or will it apply to the full Office 2007
programme?

Are this office documents? MS use new doc types - they are
"containers" with some XML doc's.

Hi Andy,

To add a little to Friedrich's reply, For the 2007 Office system MS has changed to new file formats for the documents created in
the main Office apps. To help with communication with folks who may not have 2007 Office apps MS has provided two features.

- For folks with Office 2007 when you save a document you can choose to use File=>Save as and choose a 97-2003 Office version File
format. You can also make this your default choice, but that will turn off some of the newer editing features for you, by using
Alt,T,O,S to get to the 'Save' customization area.

- For folks who have earlier versions of Office or the free Office file viewers they can install a converter 'twinpack' that will
allow them to open the new 2007 Office file formatted documents in addition to those they can work with now. They won't have all of
the tools to work on these that you do in 2007 Office apps, but they should see, in most cases, the document as you sent it.
