Office 2007 Enterprise edn. won't begin installation

Hi,

I am trying to install Office 2007 on a computer at my University. The uni
software site has a small exe file that I have downloaded and it is supposed
to download the entire installer when I run this. When I run the exe file, a
command prompt window appears briefly, then disappears. Nothing happens after
this. The window closes before I can read it but I think it says something
about failing.

I have also tried installing the copy of Office XP that I had previously
installed, but that doesn't work now either. This time I just get a message
telling me "This installation package could not be opened ...[etc]"

I have tried looking for a chached .msi file in the \WINDOWS\Installer
folder but there isn't one yet for the Office 2007 installer. I have
restarted, and I know that I do have admin privileges. I have run the
installer successfully on other computers in my department.

The IT department here are a bit stumped at the moment, I thought I'd try
here.

Thanks,

Ben

Yes, as a matter of fact I did. I used RegClean. I tried to restore the
registry today using system restore but that isn't working either. It will
restore, then reboot, but then it gives me an error telling me the restore
was incomplete and that there were no changes were made. I have tried
multiple restore points without any luck.

Maybe I should turn off system restore, then turn it on again to fix this?

I managed to get a DVD with the Office installer from the IT department and
that ran smoothly. Office is now working. But the web based installer still
doesn't work.

Strange!
