Office 2007 File Size

I have been doing some file size analysis with Office 2003 and Office 2007.
As expected most files are smaller when saved in the Office 2007 format.
However, files with jpeg images are larger when saved in Office 2007. For
example, one jumped from 64kb to 100kb.

I would understand if they remained the same size, but why are the files
larger?

Did you look at the zip container of the 2007 file to see if the picture
was actually saved as jpg?
