Office 2007 install and compatibility questions

David SS

I just bought Office 2007 Home/Student, and don't want to have any problems
when I install it. Hopefully some of these below questions can be answered
here.

I have Office 2000 business installed on our Home and Daughter's (for
University computer) ... and am wondering if I should uninstall the 2000
version before installing 2007?
Also, are there any compatibility issues with the 2000 Word or Exel files I
should be aware of before installing 2007?
And, for example ... We create a Word document on our computer with Office
2007 and want to print in at a different location on a machine with and older
Office version ... will it work?

Thanks for any help

When I installed Office 2007 (I have done it on several machines), I
uninstalled the old version. I have heard about people installing more than
one version, but I honestly wouldn't recommend it as it seems more likely to
cause problems than yeild benefits.
Also, are there any compatibility issues with the 2000 Word or Exel files I

There are compatability issues if you save files in the newest format (.docx
or .xlsx). To prevent this, you can save files as .doc or .xls, the old file
format. Also you can install the compatability pack on the machine with the
older version:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...70-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en.

What I currently do is set the default save option to save to the older
format. To do this, click on the Office button (top left), select Word (or
whatever program) options, click Save, and change "Save files in this format"
to Word 97-3003 (*.doc)
And, for example ... We create a Word document on our computer with Office
2007 and want to print in at a different location on a machine with and older
Office version ... will it work?

Again, install the compatability pack on the older machine and/or always
save in the older format on the new machine.

Thanks very much for the reply Doug. I'm going to install this soon, and feel
better about the process having more info about it.
