Office 2007 installation/configuration KEEPS running every time.

I know this is a hot topic as I've seen many many postings on different
forums about this issue.
But none of the suggested solutions has so far worked for me and this issue
is one of the biggest frustrations I have ever had with computers.
I am astonished that Microsoft has not released an executable that will
interrogate the system and fix the appropriate issue.

Anyway, enough of that!
I really do need a solution that doest not involve uninstalling Vista.....
so offers invited - thankyou.

Background is
- It's a Dell Vista Home Premium Laptop
- It came installed with Office 2007 trial
- I uninstalled the Office 2007 trial
- I installed and ran the Service pack update on Office 2007 Home & Student
- I have uninstalled that and reinstalled it... no joy.
- Also have tried deleting certain log files reccommended in various places
- Also have tried running the Vista repair disk
- I have also looked in the registry but I think many of the registry type
fixes are directed at Office 2003 so I have not made any changes.

All inputs welcome!
Thanks

Save all your Data and uninstall Office 2007 and then re-install. That is the known
solution that will work

Will,

I have a suggestion. Run the application as the administrator. Even if you
are already logged in as you administrative account on your computer.
Uninstall anything you have for office 07 right now,
Explore the CD for Office
Right click the .exe in the office CD and select Run As Administrator

That may fix your issue.

I have exactly the same problem.

System is as follows:

Windows XP Pro with all updates.

Office 2003 Pro installed and running well for over two years.

MS Project Pro Trial installed and then removed 6 months ago

MS Project 2007 Standard installed 6 months ago and working fine.

Two days ago tried to upgrade to Office 2007 Standard, and got the Office is
Configuring screen each time I opened any Office 2007 app, and an error
related to Project 2oo7 Pro, which I no longer have!

Found the Registry key related to the Project 2007 Pro error and deleted
that. Now I get the Configuration screen each and every time, but no error
message about Project 2007 Pro.

Removed all remaining Office 2003 apps. have same problem.

Removed all Office 2007 apps and then reinstalled. Same problem.

Tried cleaning Registry - same problem.

Removed all Office 2007 and installed Office 2003 Pro again. Ofice 2003
works well.

Installed ONLY Project 2007 Standard, leaving the other Office 2003 apps in
place. I now get the Configuration screen open each time I start Project
2007. All 2003 apps are still OK.

Why can't Microsoft tell us which files and registry entries need to be
deleted to do a clean install of Office 2007????

I removed Office 2007 and re-installed it. As noted by Peter, the problem
did not occur when opening any of the Office applications. However, this
only worked until I installed the SP2 for Office update (introduced in
October). The problem started again. It appears that Microsoft created this
monster. I continued to install all of the new updates in hopes that the
problem was addressed over that past month. No such luck. I am starting
over again and will not accept the SP2 for Office update this time. This
seems like a great idea for another Mac vs PC commercial!!
