Office 2007 is slow opening files on desktop

I have installed Office 2007 and when I try and open a file by double
clicking it takes minutes for it to open. If I have the program open, either
Word or Excel, and open though the search function, it opens without issues.

Is their a fix?

Quoting Bob I: "If the problem is ONLY when you double-click on a file to
open it. the
problem is likely due to DDE. It can be fixed by reinstalling, OR this
workaround.

Go to Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types, scroll down to and
select (DOC for Word files) or XLS (for Excel files), click Advanced,
select Open entry, click the edit Button.
Now uncheck "Use DDE" and then put your cursor in the Application box,
arrow all the way to the right and put in "%1" (include the quote
marks), IF there is /dde remove it. Then OK you way out. Things should
work quickly again."

Following your instructions below, I am not seeing the Advanced button. When
I choose DOC the only options I have is New, Change and Restore. Change is
the association option to associate file types. I am using XP Pro so I am
not sure if this changes things or not.

Humm, the "Restore" button indicates that something or someone has been
"fiddling" with your "DOC" associations. Start by clicking the restore
Button first, and then go back to Word and do a Detect and Repair. Then
re-evaluate the situation.

Well maybe you are talking about Windows XP because Vista has 3 tabs in the
Foler Options; General, View & Search.
I kind of think I know what you are talking about but I can not remember
where I have seen it.
Any more suggestions on where to Look?
Thanks, Jesseb
