Office 2007 kills "Open" command in other progams

M

Microsoft

I installed Office 2007 Enterprise on my Win XP Pro Laptop and, while all
the Office components ran, a couple of other non-Office programs exhibited
an odd (and not in the good sense) behavior. In the File/Open dialogue of
these other programs the program just hangs. If you select a previously
opened program (from a pick list), the program runs correctly - only the
"Open" command seems to have gotten messed up.

I verified that the problem manifests due to Office 2007 by uninstalling it
and seeing that the other programs function normally again.

I'm guessing that an "Open" API has gotten re-written for Office 2007 and
that other programs that depend on this interface are broken by the process.
And if this is true, there may be other programs that are not working but I
just haven't run across them yet.

I like the new Office 2007 and I want to use it but if it breaks my other
programs, this is a major problem.

Is there a fix for this?

Thanks

Hi Paul,

What other programs/versions are you seeing this in and what steps are you following? What other or older MS products are also
being used?
