Office 2007 License Usage

Markz

Hi all:
I apologize if this is a duplicate question ... I submitted earlier, but
page had expired so I don't know if the question was actually submitted.

Anyhow, my question is:
I have Office 2007 Sm Bsns on my desktop at work.
I have Office 2007 Enterprise on my laptop.
I use both my laptop and desktop concurrently at work, side-by-side in a
networked environment.

I would like to use my desktop 2007 SmBsns license to install Outlook 2007
with Business Contact Manager on my laptop.

My EULA reads:
a. Licensed Device. You may install and use one copy of the software on the
licensed device.
b. Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device for
use by the single primary user of the licensed device.

There is no mention made of simultaneous usage of that license, but I have
been told that you cannot use one license on two machines at the same time.

Taken literally, it appears to me that I meet the criteria of my EULA. I am
the single primary user of the licensed device. But of course, my machines
are named differently, and have different IP addresses.

My fear, however, is that MS will notice one license being used by two IPs
and/or two different users.

Any opinions on this isssue?

Thanks in advance,
Markz

I don't think that they monitor usage that closely. If you get past
activation then you are home free. People have quoted court doctrine to say
that you have the "right" to make a copy for mobile use. Google "Fair Use
Doctrine". According to this theory, the EULA lets you make (install) a
copy for use on your portable device, because otherwise it would be
unenforceable.

I think you skipped reading "c."

c.Separation of Components. The components of the software are licensed
as a single unit. You may not separate the components and install them
on different devices.

So it's all or nothing on the portable.
