Office 2007 Licensing and 2008 Server

B

Brad

Just want to confirm I understand my licensing requirements.
1) Office 2007 on Local Network (1 OEM License for each local computer and 1
user Server CAL for each user)
2) Office 2007 Remote Desktop Access to Server (TS) (1 Office 2007 Open
License for each computer, 1 Server User CAL for each user and 1 Remote
Access CAL for each user)
3) Also, if I have users remotely access the 2008 server that has Office
2007 on it but I don't give them access to Office 2007 or Office Documents do
they need the Office Open License?
4) Do I need Open Office Licenses for VPN access to Office files on this
server?
Thanks.

Licenses are tricky things. Here is what i understand of it all (i dont work
for microsoft).

1. If you had one open license on each machine then you would not need an
additional licenes on the server. One User / Computer cal for each workstation
2. If they are are on your network then they will need a CAL for your
server. If they are remoting in they just need a TS cal. Once again, if you
just install an Office 2007 open license on the machines they would not need
a cal on your server for it.
3. If they cannot get to office in anyway shap or form, Then you would not
need a cal for them.
4. If they are not using Office on your server and they are just getting
files off of it, its called a file server at that point and you would need
Server cals for those computers.

Thats not microsofts answers, thats what i would do.
