Office 2007 - List Library vs. Gallery?

S

SteveB

Why are bulleted lists treated differently than other galleries?

It seems like right-clicking on a formated gallery item lets you add it to
the quick access toolbar and to organize the gallery. An example is page
numbers.

You can't do this for bulleted lists. You can create a style but can't add
them to the library (gallery) or organize it so that it is at the top of the
list.

Any way to do this?

Thanks.

Can you explain in more detail what you are trying to do (preferably
give us some steps) and in which program you are trying to do this.

Hi Steve,

If you use the Mulitlevel List icon (2 to the right of the 'Bullets' icon in Word 2007 you can define one (or more) to use bullets
for the hierarchy.

The 'Bullet' list icon is basically a shortcut to start a list using a particular bullet without having to go to the gallery and
modify an existing list.

Once you are in the Multilevel List library you can add the current list choice or the List Library items to the QAT by right
clicking on them.

A list style (like other Word 'styles') can be applied to separate levels of a Multilevel list.

If you select text that has a List Style applied to it and right click and select Styles you can add that style to your Quick Styles
gallery. You can right click on a Quick Styles gallery item and add it to the QAT.

You may want to also use the link below to followup with this in the Word Numbering (bullets & lists too <g>) discussion group for
additional ideas from the folks who work more with those details.

Thanks for your responses. I'm just beginning to use Word 2007 - Trial.

I can define a multi-level bullet list and save it as a new style. I can't
understand why I'd ever need just a straight list and would 90% of the time
use this style. I can't seem to modify one of the existing options in the
library.

As a style I can't get to it from the Quick Access Tool bar. I need to
click: Home/Multilevel bullet and then scroll down to the bottom where the
styles are.

With other galleries like page numbers, I can customize one and add it to
the gallery and then organize it so that it appears at the top. It took
awhile to figure it out but I was able to get it done. Now, whenever I want
page numbers, my custom format is at the top of the gallery.

I'd like to get to my multi level bullet format from the Quick Tool bar and
save all the clicks and scrolling or at leat get it to the top of the list to
avoid having to scroll down.

If this is possible, I'd appreciate understanding how to do it.

Thank you.
