Office 2007 Migration via Group Policy

D

David Agosta

I'm new to installing via GPO's.

I'm trying to migrate my users from Office 2003 to 2007 using group policy.
I have setup an install point and used the OCT to create a configuration
file. I have also slipstreamed Office 2007 SP1 using the updates folder.

If I install using "\\servername\Office2007\setup.exe /adminfile
\\servername\Office2007\Updates\Office2007-Config.MSP" everything works as
desired.

However, if I install via GP using
"\\servername\Office2007\Enterprise.WW\EnterpriseWW.msi" it ignores my config
file and SP1, and installs 2007 without removing 2003. I assume I need a MST
file for the modifications tab but I can't figure out how to make one.

Any Help?

Hi David,

The structure of Office 2007 differs from prior versions and uses multiple .MSI files. It also has its own Setup program features
that include the Office Customization Tool (OCT). The OCT creates MS Windows Installer patch Files (.MSP) that Setup.exe can use,
but it doesn't support GPO deployment, as the MS Windows Installer doesn't use .MSP files as part of a deployment

If you use Group Policy for deployment, you can't use the MSP files but could use a combination of scripts and a config.xml file for
the deployment. The Office 2000/XP-2002/2003 Custom Installation Wizard's Microsoft Transform (.MST) customization files and tools
aren't supported in Office 2007.

The Microsoft Office 2007 deployment information including the Office 2007 Resource Kit is available from
http://microsoft.com/office/ork
If you click on #3 - Deploy, then 'more technical articles' for that category you'll see the 'Downloadable book:Group Policy summary
for the 2007 Office Release'

There isn't a tool set to download for customizations as the OCT is built into the Setup.exe for Enterprise (volume) licensed Office
2007 products.
