Office 2007 MLK Question

Let me start by saying how horrific I've found Microsoft Licensing to be
the last few days. This is what I want to do...

I run my servers on Linux. But I need to use a utility that converts
Word etc. files to PDF automatically, and that requires Office and
hence requires Windows.

Thus, I need a *Windows XP virtual machine* with Office installed. I
can then put that virtual machine on my Linux server with VMWare. And I
want to do it legally - I really, really do - but its been such an
enormous pain so far. Hours and hours wasted trying to find out what I
need to buy to do this legally.

As I'm creating a Virtual Machine, I'm technically building my own
system, hence I believe that makes me an OEM.

Anyway, I think/hope I've bought the right software/licenses now, but
its so hard to know for sure:

For Windows:
'Microsoft Win XP Pro SP2B OEM'

For Office:
'Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 (with Office Professional 2007
Trial ) OEM Medialess License Kit'

So far, Windows has installed fine in VMWare, but I haven't activated
it yet as I may have to make some changes to VMWare settings and
reinstall it.

But I haven't yet opened the Office box. *I've downloaded Office 2007
SB Trial from Microsoft's website, but don't know whether my MLK will
work with it.* I don't want to open the MLK box unless I know for sure
whether it will work or not. Once the box is open, I probably can't
take it back.

Someone please, please help me. This is just nuts. The whole licensing
regime is insane. No wonder so many people install pirated software -
it saves so much time. And time is money - so far I've spent at least
five hours trying to find out the best/cheapest way to license this
legally.

Regards,

Jake.

....

I wouldn't want to bet on that. I suspect OEM agreements between MSFT and
OEMs are very clear that OEMs must be involved with HARDWARE.

You need to talk to a lawyer or MSFT directly. Probably would have been
quicker and cheaper to have bought end-user licenses.
