Office 2007 - OE6 Spell Checker.

C

Catarina Valente

My OS: WinXP Pro SP2.

I downloaded MS Office 2007 and found out that the spell checker in OE6 set
to French
(France) and can not be reset to English.

I am informed that this is because Office 2007 uses new proofing tools and
OE can't use them
because it's designed to use the older tools.

It is suggested to either download a (free) third party spell checker or to
install the proofing tools from Office 2003.

I opted for the latter and the spell checker for OE6 is reset to English.

Now the Microsoft Update application want's me to download High Priority
updates:
Microsoft GDI+Detection Tool (KB873374)
Office 2003 Service Pack 1 and 2
Update for Office 2003 (KB907417)
Update for Outlook 2003 Junk E-mail filter (KB925534) and (KB925254)

Since I had downloaded only the proofing tools (spell checker) from Office
2003 and am using
Office 2007 exclusively, is it still necessary to download any updates in
relation to Office 2003?

If downloading of updates is not required, how can I adjust the updating
function not to receive any Office 2003 update notifications?

Hi CV
I have the same problem. I already uninstalled my Office 2003, so how did
you go about installing the 'proofing tools' from Office 2003. I noticed
that you have not yet received an answer for your last question either.

Thanks for any help ... Dean

Hi Dean,

To install the proofing tools from Office 2003, choose the custom option.
Uncheck all programs in the list and add a check to the checkbox at the
bottom of the programs list. Expand the Office Shared Features branch and
locate Proofing Tools in the list. Expand proofing tools and choose English,
setting it to 'Run from my computer'. Click 'Next' to finish the
installation.

At this stage, I'd ignore all update prompts in relation to Office 2003.

I am surprised that none of the experts responding to the update
issue...didn't think it's controversial.

What 'custom option' are you talking about? Remember, I no longer have Ofc
2003 anywhere. So without that info I have no clue about 'unchecking all
programs in the list' or 'expanding the Office Shared Features' etc. etc.

I'm a little late to the party here but after installing 2007 I installed
tinySpell but my express still shows French as the default language. I don't
have access to 2003 disks. how do you correct this problem?

If you're using TinySpell turn off OE's spelling checker.
